aims at providing flexible financial assistance to regional, national and local HRs NGOs and institutes as well as individuals who promote, support, protect and monitor the observance of HRs in the South-Mediterranean region. Grants are allocated to HRDs in difficulty or at risk, for the specific purpose of allowing them to protect their safety and pursue their activities, as well as to small HROs or groups with the aim of strengthening their operational capacities to implement innovative activities in the region.
The emergency service by Front line defenders gives human rights defenders an option to be forwarded to someone speaking Arabic, English, French, Russian or Spanish who will be able to mobilise rapid international support and action. Urgent actions can include faxed or phoned appeals to the relevant authorities, raising the case through the EU or individual government representatives, practical help with temporary relocation, assistance with medical or legal expenses.
