On Thursday, August 29, 2024, a group of civil society organizations, led by the Fraternity Foundation for Human Rights FFHR, met with the Legislative Council of the Autonomous Administration of the North and East Syria Region, specifically in the Qamishli office of the Jazira Canton. The Co-President expressed the Autonomous Administration’s openness to dialogue with citizens and emphasized the crucial role of civil society organizations in acting as a bridge between the authorities and the citizens. She also stressed the need for the Office of Humanitarian Organizations Affairs to act flexibly and facilitate these processes.
Colleague Perwin Abdulftah focused on the Social Contract of the Autonomous Administration and elaborated on the role of the Fraternity Foundation for Human Rights in providing observations and suggestions for amendments to the previous Social Contract. She then moved on to discuss the necessity of drafting a law on peaceful assembly and demonstration in the region, outlining several key points included in the proposal, such as the requirements for drafting, the obligations of the police forces, and the definitions of peaceful assembly that should be included in the law’s text.
The FFHR had prepared a proposed draft law on peaceful assembly for the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria. Colleague Perwin handed over a copy of the proposal to the Legislative Council, which welcomed and appreciated the initiative.
